[ENG] Titanfall 2 - Review

(I think I don't have to say this but - this review is a description of my subjective feelings about this game, and based on this - reader should make up his/her mind if this game sounds interesting or not really)

Titanfall 2 was released in 2016 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as a successor to 2014's Titanfall. Game was created by Respawn Entertainment (they also made 2019's Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order so... You know, these guys know what they're doing!) and published by Electronic Arts.
Action of Titanfall 2's campaign takes place on a planet called Typhon, aforementioned planet is located in 'The Frontier'. Two factions fight for the control of The Frontier, Militia and IMC. (Before I'll say anything more - I haven't played the original Titanfall and single-player segment of Titanfall 2 was my first contact with the series)

In Titanfall 2 we take control of Third Class Rifleman, Jack Cooper who is aspiring Pilot (Pilots in Titanfall universe are strongest and the most dangerous enemies on the battlefield as they control the Titans), he is training under the keen eye of Captain Tai Lastimosa. During one of Pilot trainings, mission starts and we are sent down onto the surface of Typhon to investigate suspicious IMC movements in the region. But Jack Cooper is only the first half of our character, second one is... Titan. BT-7274 to be precise. Both Titan and Pilot are almost always together, protecting each other and fighting side by side. Despite Jack not finishing Pilot training, he learned many things and now he needs to put them to the test in reality.

The story is pretty short, around 6-7 hours but it's packed with incredible well-paced action, there is more than enough time to feel the strong bond between Titan BT-7274 and his Pilot Jack Cooper. Both of them try to protect each other, care for each other and save themselves from dangerous situations. Heroic acts and sacrifices, high risk actions that are huge danger to the initial Militia mission - no risk is too high when your friend is fighting for his life.
Graphics are beautiful, there's not much to add here. Game features pretty satisfying parkour system, you can run across walls, up them, vault above obstacles - combining flawless movement with shooting makes you an incredible hard target to hit. Throughout the game you can find various equipment for your Titan which you can change on the run, in the heat of the battle to fit into situation. It comes especially handy during few boss fights - each one uses different Titan to fight you and each one... Technically can be defeated with any Titan, but there are some that make a hell of a better job on specific encounters. Each Titan has a set of skills that is working with main weapon in a beautiful combination. As well as Titan Cores which are strong, devastating skills that can only be used after loading Titan Core to 100% (You can do this by inflicting damage on enemy Titans or receiving damage on your own)
Just like your Titan has skills, Pilot has a set of his own too - Cloaking Device or Grappling Hook, as well as carrying different types of grenades or weapons. There are some environmental puzzles that either have to be done to continue or can be done to find some bonus collectibles
Locations are various and environment very often rapidly changes forcing you to find new ways or parkour your way through, sometimes game adds enemies to the mix and... It becomes a beautiful dance of death - you're riding on the wall, sending a barrage of bullets on the enemies down below and then you jump off and kick-land that one enemy that somehow hid from your assault. Simply - beautiful.

Titanfall 2 was one of the most underrated games ever, but not for the reasons you would think. Game is beautiful, story is short and powerful, sound design is gorgeous and multiplayer is made really well. So... Why did such a good game fly under the radar? Because of possibly one of the dumbest time of release. Titanfall 2 was released between the release dates of Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. It was placed between two huge releases, thus many people were way more interested in aforementioned titles than Titanfall 2. A shame to be honest because not so many people have experienced this game, but... I think I can tell with pure heart that, as of December 2019 the game is going through the phase of rebirth, why? Well... Thanks to the generosity of Sony and PlayStation Plus (PS+), Titanfall 2 was available for free and - from what various sites tell - amount of players in multiplayer has skyrocketed from barely 1,500 to a whopping 70,000-80,000. That is a lot, and to think that many players may won't even touch multiplayer because they prefer single playing... So many people experiencing the hidden gem of modern gaming industry. It's beautiful.

Titanfall 2 is an amazing game that was overshadowed by much more popular releases, of course it's not a perfect game (though I may have presented it like one), but it's one of the better FPS titles I have played in a long time, satisfying combat system combined with smooth parkour and Titan battles. I recommend this game with my whole heart - it's a beautiful story between a Pilot and his Titan and their desperate quest to discover and stop IMC from whatever they're doing on Typhon. Multiplayer segment is also really well made, with a lot of modes and smooth gameplay. When the Titans fall on the ground, the battle takes a turn - score of the match can change in an instant with good team coordination and Titan usage.
Good luck on your journey through Typhon, building trust with your Titan, discovering IMC plans and hunting other Pilots in multiplayer!

Kind Regards,
Wing.
